Antimony trioxide is commonly known as antimony white, in the form of white powder ,is an amphoteric oxide , insoluble in water, ethanol , dilute sulfuric acid and dilute nitric acid, but soluble in concertrated hydrochloric acid , sulfuric acid, strong alkali and tartaric acid solution , the Molecular formula is Sb2O3, the molecular weight is 291.5 , the density is 5.3g/cm3, the melting point is 656 cet degree. And the boiling point is 1570 cet degree .

 

Application :

 

1. Used as filling agent and flame retardant in rubber industry.
2. Used as covering agent in porcelain enamel and ceramics.
3. Used as non-magnetic ceramics used for making pressure sensitive ceramics and magnet head parts in electronic industry

Antimony trioxide is predominantly used in plastics where resistance to ignition and flammability are required. Antimony trioxide functions as a synergist, reducing the amount of halogen-based product required to achieve desired levels of flammability resistance performance. ATO has also been found to be useful as a catalyst for PET manufacture, as a frictional additive in automotive brake linings, as a clarifier for glass, as an opacifier for enamels, as a coating for titanium dioxide applications, and as a stabilizer for certain pigments.
